How does BLZ + Kontonummer conversion work?
German bank accounts traditionally consist of two numbers: the Bankleitzahl (BLZ), an 8-digit bank routing code, and the Kontonummer (account number) of up to 10 digits. When Germany adopted the IBAN system, these two numbers were combined into a standardized international format.
The German IBAN is always 22 characters long. It starts with the country code DE, followed by a 2-digit checksum calculated using the mod-97 algorithm, then the 8-digit BLZ, and finally the account number padded to 10 digits with leading zeros.
